Calling all creators
We are creating a free spiritual formation web app for kids ages 3-6 and looking for content creators to bring our vision to life!
We invite you to submit a 1-5 minute video showcasing your talents—whether it’s storytelling, singing, sharing a prayer, or crafting. In line with our dedication to diversity, we will prioritize submissions from Black, Indigenous, and creators of color.
Selected contributors will receive a $100 honorarium and will be credited in the final production.
Submit your entries by December 31, 2024, and be part of something special!
the details
We are committed to providing an enriching faith-based learning experience for young children and their families. This content is not meant to replace, but to supplement family and community centered spiritual formation. It is intended to act as a joyful invitation for children to explore the Christian faith as expressed through the values and ethics of the United Church of Canada.
- Our Values: Christian Faith, Sacred Story, Joyful Invitation, Wonder, and Equity
- Age-Appropriate Content: Ensure that all content is suitable for children aged 3-6. Use language, visuals, and examples appropriate for preschool children.
- Engaging and Interactive Elements: When applicable, include interactive elements to make learning fun. Use colorful illustrations, animations, and videos to capture children’s attention. In video content, include prompts for children to respond verbally or with physical movement.
- Clear Navigation and Structure: Organize content into clear sections. Use simple navigation menus and labels, keeping pre-literacy in mind.
- Safety and Privacy: Emphasize online safety, creating a “closed environment” for children to engage with safely. Personal information will not be shared and privacy policy is clearly stated.
- Diverse Representation: Include diverse characters in visuals and stories, with a special emphasis on BIPOC, disabled and 2SLGBTQ+ representation.
- Accessibility: Ensure the application and content meets AODA standards.
- Caregiver Resources: Provide resources for parents, in the parental controls section, as well as an optional subscription-based newsletter, including how to connect with a local community of faith and guides for engaging with their children in spiritual conversations.
- Regular Updates: Keep content fresh by adding new video content seasonally. Continue to update the application to address bugs.
Our theme is: God’s love is vast! It includes each one of us, our neighbours, and all of creation. When we feel God’s love, we want to share it with others by making the world a better place for everyone.
We are asking questions like:
- Who is God and what is God like?
- How can we be good neighbours?
Highlighting stories with suspense, animals, that lend themselves to repetition, new perspectives on familiar stories, children as active characters, and biblical.
We are also looking for specific videos retelling these three stories from the Spark Story Bible (with permission from Sparkhouse Publishing)
- Creation Story (Genesis 1)
- Elijah and the Magic Jar (1 King 17:8-24)
- The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37)
